North West Mountain Rescue Team were involved in a dramatic rescue and evacuation operation at the cliffs at Fair Head in north County Antrim yesterday. Two climbers had fallen approx. 50 metres down the cliff face whilst attempting the Hell’s Kitchen route at Ballycastle Descent Gully East during the Fair Head Meet. The lead climber fell near top of route then collided with his belayer.  Climbers nearby lowered both to base from belay, rendered first aid and were assessed by NWMRT’s doctor. Members of  HM Coastguard, Coleraine Search and Rescue, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service HART and PSNI were also in attendance. It was decided the best option was to seek extraction by the Irish Coastguard helicopter (S92 from Sligo..call sign Rescue118) to airlift them for treatment in hospital. Once again a great example of inter-agency co-operation resulting in a successful outcome. (Scroll down for pictures and videos)
